visual designer in RDP doesn't start

Post by amc »

Hi,

I have been using visual designer in RDP for ages & never had a problem. Now it doesn't start. I removed & re installed the plugin, no success. When I right click on a display file & click the Profound UI option, I get the password prompt as expected, that's accepted ok, it then displays the "Loading Profound UI..." graphic & that's where it sits. BTW, there are no problems running the visual designer directly from a browser session (IE, Chrome & Firefox all work fine).

What are the steps to trace/fix the problem please.

thanks & regards

Tony,

Have there been any other changes to your RDP environment? Did you upgrade RDP? What version are you running?

RDP is unchanged (8.5.1)
PUI is 4.8.3
IE has been updated recently to 11 (11.04)

That is indeed strange. Is anyone else in your organization running the plugin? Are they also having this issue?

It sounds like it could be a javascript error causing it to halt. Perhaps something introduced in a custom js file. When you run in one of the other browsers and open the browser's developer tools, to you see any js errors in the console? Perhaps there are errors and the stand alone browsers are handling them more gracefully.

I'm the only rdp user here.
I have got around the problem by changing the default in rdp to external browser like this
browser.png
browser.png (48.19 KiB) Viewed 40310 times
that works fine, display file opens & works fine. There are no errors in the console, only a warning

Code: Select all

Consider using 'dppx' units instead of 'dpi', as in CSS 'dpi' means dots-per-CSS-inch, not dots-per-physical-inch, so does not correspond to the actual 'dpi' of a screen. In media query expression: only screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 1.3), not all, only screen and (min-resolution: 200dpi)
This method of editing in the external browser has got me out of trouble, so I'm not too concerned with not being able to have it open in an rdp window now.
Thanks

Glad you found a workable solution, but I am still puzzled as to what happened. I developed the plugin and have not seen or heard of this problem before. Of course many of the plugin users have moved to RDi 9, as have I, so maybe it is just something in 8.5. Since this is not urgent for you now, I will take a look when I have some spare time. Would you mind if I contacted you at a later date if I need help recreating the issue?

My team and I all use RDI. We are at RDI version 9.6.0.11. We have the same problem of the plugin stuck at the same loading spot. It works fine if I open Profound outside of rational. Regardless of which browser I use.

Please note that Profound Logic does not recommend the use of the Visual Designer plugin for RDi. This is an older plugin that our team no longer makes changes to. Instead, we strongly suggest using the Visual Designer in a standard web browser. Using the Visual Designer in the web browser will give you a much better experience.

Thanks!
