Our in-house transportation software interfaces with a canned accounting package. We only planned on creating or modifying the Genie renderings for our in-house software, leaving any other software existing on our box to Genie's default renderings. During the course of a recent demo of our transportation software to a potential customer, we ventured into the accounting package. While navigating thru the accounting software, we noticed that Genie would sometimes interpret parts of a menu as a subfile and impose a grid over part of the menu.
This a question / suggestion. Is it possible down the road to refine the detection of subfiles and/or menus? In our particular example, I will create / modify Genie's renderings of the accounting software's menus to "not detect subfiles" since our customers will have access to these menus and may be confused when they see a subfile grid placed over part of a menu.
Please let me know if there's a better solution than the one I described above. Thanx in advance.
Genie randomly interprets menus (or segments of) as subfile

Re: Genie randomly interprets menus (or segments of) as subfile
As Genie functions at a low-level (5250 stream), it is not aware of your files, record formats, subfiles, etc.
The subfile grid feature is based on text pattern detection. So, if you have 2 or more rows on the screen with uniform columns, it will think it's a subfile.
You can use this feature in 1 of 2 ways:
1. You can turn it on globally and turn it off using the designer for screens that get false hits.
2. You can turn it off globally and then turn it on using the designer for desired screens.
The global option is in the Admin interface under Subfile Settings. It's called "detect subfile patterns".
The screen-level option has the same name -- it's under the screen-level properties in the designer.
With the latest version of Genie there is a new option "Find Option Column" which works with this feature to try to reduce false hits.
If you turn that on, then the pattern detection will also look for a column of input boxes to the left of the row/cols of data. This will reduce false hits, but it's not an exact science. You may still have an odd screen where it false hits. Also this will mean that it will detect only input-capable subfiles.

Looks like Wayne has the same problem I sent you a while ago and it was transferred to support to start the correction process.
Do you know ETA for the java script which supposedly will fix that? Now we are 2 with the same issue and problably will be many more.

To jac53...
I think these are 2 different things we are talking about here. Wayne is having trouble with false hits from subfile detection, you were having issues with the menu panel detection.
FYI, though, the issue with menu panel detection you were experiencing has been resolved in our latest version 3.3.3, if you'd like to try it out.
