Suggestion for PUI Designer

Post by DaveLClarkI »

You know what would really help me out in the PUI Designer? If somewhere on the Edit tab in the Formatting tools there was an eye-dropper for pointing at an existing design element, which would suck up its color, and then allow you to easily paint that color onto another design element (possibly in a different designer session). Two or three clicks and you're done. I've used such a tool in other graphical IDE's.

Currently, when I don't know the color of an existing element that I need to match, I have to get out the Inspect Element dialog and go hunting for the CSS color associated with the desired element. Once I find it, I have to copy-n-paste it into the properties pane for the element needing to be matched. About twelve clicks, with a bit of hunting, and it's done. Is there another way?

That is an interesting suggestion.

Usually we recommend using CSS classes to apply things like colors and fonts, but I guess you'd still need an easy way to find the color from an existing element if it's not right there in the "color" property. I found a plug-in for FireFox that is called 'ColorZilla' which seems to do this job pretty nicely, maybe this will help you today.

It gives you an eye dropper that you can use to click on any area of the screen, it automatically copies the color code to your clipboard. I tried it out with the designer, and it works surprisingly well!

Sounds like a plan -- for now. ;-) Thanks.
