Multiple Indicators for field

Post by dennisw »

We don't have the Genie product to convert green screens. I have converted a couple myself by creating the screen in Visual Designer. Sometimes I have a field that has multiple indicators for display. For example a field may display on 84N85. I have been creating a new field for visibility and setting it in the program.

I'm just curious how the Genie converter handles multiple indicators.

We have 2 ways to modernize existing green screens.
1. Genie refaces screens at the 5250 level. It does not handle indicators or fields directly. It simply grabs 5250 output from your green-screen.
2. The more robust way to modernize a screen would be to convert it to a Rich Display File. Then, you can maintain and enhance the screen in the Visual Designer and you will have access to all fields and indicators. The tool used for this is our DDS Conversion Module.

In the Rich Display File, a property like "visibility" can be controlled either by an Indicator or an Indicator Expression. Both options are available in the Binding Dialog under the Data Type dropdown. An Indicator Expression can be defined as "84 and N85" so there is no need to create a new field.
