Can you use both 5250 and new rich GUI screen?

Post by Profound Logic »

Question:
Would it be possible to have a program that uses both the original 5250 and the new rich GUI screen based on indicator or user preference?

Answer:
Yes. The rich user interface platform was architected in a way, so that existing DDS can be mapped to the new Rich DDS. There is also a conversion process that maps it for you automatically. For example, you may have indicator 99 controlling the DSPATR(HI) keyword in the green-screen display file. In the Rich Display File, the font weight property will be attached to indicator 99 as well, with formatting to specify the value of “bold” if the indicator is on, and the value of “normal” if the indicator is off.
