Subfile excel download in CSV text format when open in excel

Post by cbrent »

When the PC region is changed from English to Germany the downloaded CSV file opens in excel in CSV text format. Is there a way to open the downloaded file in excel format regardless of region setting?

I believe that German PCs use a different separator character for CSV. While we use a comma in the USA, I believe they use a semicolon (or something like that) as a separator in Germany.

Profound UI will determine which separator to use based on your IBM i job settings. So if you're changing the PC to German without adjusting the corresponding IBM i job settings, that may produce the problems you're having.

You can override Profound's guess at the proper seperator by setting the "grid csv separator" property on your subfile.

However, there are known issues with German characters (for example, modified vowels) in Profound UI. Even though we export our data as UTF-8, Excel seems to want to treat it as ASCII causing the German charactes to be misinterpreted. See this thread for details:

Let me know if that helps, please
