In release 5.9.0, the option is given to allow export of a grid to a native Excel 2007+ (XLSX) format. The user needs to do that by right-clicking on the header.
Is there a way to make this the default when pressing the export icon on the lower left of the grid?

If you enable that option, then grids that were set up to export CSV files will now export XLSX.
