Tree View and Accordion

Are there any plans to add a tree view widget and an accordion widget to the Visual Designer?

This has come up before and we will discuss it, but currently I don't think it is on the agenda.

Normally people are looking for these types of widgets for menus. Have you looked at our menu system Atrium? it uses trees and accordions and can call profound ui programs.

Yeah, I have been through the Atrium documentation, but it won't work for our menu system. All of our menu options are stored in tables and dynamically loaded for each user based upon security settings for the user (are they authorized to the menu/option). The user security setup is part of our menu system. From what I can tell, Atrium doesn't allow you to load the menu dynamically from a table. Plus, we would have to create macros for every menu option that we wanted to run through Genie, which would be most of our older applications.

I have converted our menu application using the DDS converter. Of course, it initially converted the menu as a subfile grid. I changed that using a menu widget, instead. That looks better than the subfile grid, but it still doesn't get you away from the green-screen feel of having to drill-down through menus to get to the option you want. A tree view or a combination of accordion and tree view would get me away from that.

But, I would definitely have other uses for these types of widgets beyond menus.

I know this is an old request, but is there anything new in regards to that request? We are looking for the exact same thing (mix of accordion/tree menu).

We looked at Atrium, but feel it would be hard to make it work with our existing menu/security system.

We do have an accordion layout widget (under 'layouts' in the designer) that's available.

If you're trying to write a menu, however, I'm not sure that a widget is really what you need. Can you explain how you'd like this to work? Would you like clicks on tree items to simply set a variable in an RPG program? Or do you want somethign that will always stay open as you switch programs (like a menu, similar to Atrium)?

We are looking to do almost the same as atrium.
Menu at the top, one to the left and tabs with iframe in the middle .


We pretty much like the atrium portal, but find that users, menu, security management does not match our needs.

Can you explain a bit more on how the security management is not meeting your needs? We might be able to assist/advise.

I will make a document tonight or tomorrow that explains exactly what we are trying to achieve and include what we like and not like about atrium. I don't remember all the pros and cons we had with this, but 3 cons that we had for sure were multi-language mangement, visibility of menu options (we want to show it even if user does not have access to it) and security by menu option (being able to see all users who have access to an option or all options that a user has access to)
One other thing, and i dont remember if we can do this or not with atrium is to show menus and a home page without requesting the user to login.
Our atrium trial license has expired, could you provide us a new one or should we request one from Jordan?

You should request an additional trial from Jordan, if possible. I suspect that he'll want to be in the loop. I'll drop him an e-mail to explain the situation, so that he knows what's going on.

It would be good to provide the document you mention to Jordan as well, so that we could take a look.

In regard to having menu options in multiple languages (I'm assuming this is what you are referring to there), there is capability built in, although currently there is not a GUI interface to set it up. However, translations of the menu item text can be put into the Atrium database through DB tools, programs, SQL scripts, etc. See here for a description of the Atrium database:

The file ATNTRANSP can be setup to contain the translations.
