Copy/Paste

Post by jac53 »

The users are used to copy from an Excel document the data and paste it to the subfile.
In Genie they cannot do that.
Do you know any setting which allow to do that in Genie?

Thanks.

Is this because Genie transforms your subfile into GUI data (like drop-downs) and therefore you can't paste into those fields?

Or... can you explain this question? I've never attempted to paste from an Excel document into a subfile before. How does it work? What prevents it working in Genie?

Hi Scott:

Genie transforms every I/O subfile fields to TEXTBOX so when you try to paste multiple fields/multiple rows from an Excel document only the first field in the first row is populated.

Oh I think I see... you select multiple rows of multiple fields in Excel, and copy them to the clipboard. And in 5250, when you paste them, the data overflows a field and moves to the next, causing it to fill in the data in all of the fields and all of the rows in a single paste.

Wow, I would never have thought of that!

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much we can do about this in Genie. It's the browser that receives the pasted data (not Genie, directly) so it'd be extremely difficult to overcome this.

Maybe it will be great to have a new widget for a XML Grid.
