Leading zeros and exporting to excel

Question:
If I have an alphanumeric field (part number) that may contain leading zeros and use the export to excel function, what happens to the leading zeros? Do they get dropped?

Answer:
The file is exported into CSV format. The leading zeros will be there in the CSV file if it's an alpha field; however; excel may still sometime interpret the data as a number.
