Using screens on Phone

Post by sunny »

I have created a Genie skin and screens over existing display files. They still need to be tweaked but are working. The only issue I have is that, if a staff member uses the screens on their phone, it is way too big and doesn't look like a phone screen.

Do you have any suggestions?

The 5250 protocol is designed for screens that have a fixed size. Everything is positioned by a specific row/column, etc, and has no sort of adjustable/responisive flow to allow elements to be reorganized to fit different screen sizes.

While it's possible to use Genie on a mobile device like this, we would recommend that you adjust your Genie skin to fit the size of the smallest screen you plan to support. It will use that size for all screens.

For best results, we recommend that you re-do your screens to use Rich Displays instead of 5250 screens, and use responsive design paradigms to allow them to adjust nicely to different size displays. This requires redesigning each screen, so it's more work, but in the end you'll have a much better result.

Always remember if you don't have the time/knowledge/resources to re-do them yourself, we do offer consulting services that can help. That said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing it yourself -- I just wanted to put that idea out there in case it's helpful.

To change to the rich design? I have been programming for years and feel very comfortable learning new technology. I am just learning as I go.
We don't have the developer license for Profound. We have a 3rd party software vendor but since I only started a few months ago, I am trying to rely less on the 3rd party vendor and do more in house. I have been watching your videos and that is how I am learning.

Thank you for your help. All suggestions are welcome.

Yes, you need a "Designer for RPG OA Development" (basically, the Visual Designer) license to develop Rich Displays.
You need a "Genie Development" license to use the Genie designer to modify green-screens. (You must have that already?)

Yes, we have Genie and Atrium. They work fine but I just would like them to be a little prettier for the phone.

Thanks for the help.
