Question:
Do you plan on retro fitting ExtJS widgets to use in the visual designer, instead of your proprietary widgets?

Answer:
There is no reason to retrofit ExtJS widgets into our visual designer. While very nice looking, ExtJS widgets do not provide the same level of integration with the IBM i and are very complex to implement without extensive changes to the way your RPG code is written.

The widgets we provide cover virtually everything one would want to accomplish in business application development. The widgets already have similar and often enhanced capabilities from those you will find in ExtJS, but in a way that makes sense for standard RPG development.

In addition, our widgets are open in that anyone can extend them. We also provide a framework that allows anyone to create their own widgets that are configurable through point-and-click properties in our designer.

So, at the moment, there are no plans to integrate ExtJS widgets into the designer. If anything, we will keep improving our widgets, to ensure we at least stay up-to-date with today’s standard frameworks.
