Question:
If we are converting from S/36 to Native and still running in a S/36 environment will we need to finish our conversion to Native before being able to use this enhancement?
Answer:
To convert to Rich Display Files, yes, you will have to first finish your conversion from S/36 to Native.
However, we do provide another capability, which was not covered in the Webinar, which will work even with your S/36 environment screens. It is our Web-enablement module called Genie, and it is installed with Profound UI. It works at the 5250 level and allows you enhance your screens with our Visual Designer and utilize all of the available widgets with your existing screens.
This option may work very well for a lot of customers who are looking to modernize green-screens. The main advantage that it provides is that there is no converting or recompiling that has to be done by you - the 5250 output stream is converted to HTML on-the-fly, and you can still enhance your screens with the visual designer. But, ultimately, it is less flexible than utilizing Rich Display Files.
