I'm having an issue getting a subfile control record to display as a window. I know the format is displaying somewhere because I have a "cancel" button bound to the escape key, and that is working. The problem is that I can't see the window. The main display just goes dark but no window displays.

It sounds to me like it is starting to draw the display (it has masked the previous display, set up the keyboard function keys, etc) but is crashing before it draws the window.

Go into the browser's developer tools and look for errors in the console.

The only think I"m seeing in the console is "The key "target-densitydpi" is not supported. But, I see that all the time.

It's funny, I can see the window popup, then go away. Like something is masking it.

If I look in the inspector, I see a container div, that holds the window. It has a z-index of 1036. Not sure what it is. Could this be masking the window?

Okay, thanks for looking into the error. It was just a guess, obviously, and we've now ruled that out.

"masking" and z-index are two different concepts. We apply masking to the previous screens, so that they are visible, but appear darker or "grayed out". They wouldn't be applied to your window, however, unless you wrote another format that overlays it.

Z-Index controls what is displayed "in front" of another thing. So if the z-index of your window has a higher number than the z-index of the display that it overlays, the overlaid display will appear "in back of" the window. Higher numbers are always in front of lower numbers. Profound UI starts windows above 1000 to make them appear in front of other things. (If there are multiple windows, it adds extra to the subsequent ones to make them even higher.)

So, knowing your Window's z-index doesn't tell me much unless I know the z-index of the previous displays that it overlays. If they have a higher z-index than the window, that would explain the problem! But, usually Profound UI does a good job of setting these properly. Unless you've changed some z-index values somewhere?

If you can't figure it out, once you get the bad screen, press Ctrl-F9. This will download a JSON dump of your display (it is whatever the handler is sending to the JavaScript framework) called json.txt. If you post that JSON dump to these forums, I can use it to "re-play" your screen on my machine and see what's going on.

(Make sure there's nothing private in the display, since this is a public forum.)

This was a tricky one, but looking into your JSON dump, I see you have a layout named Layout2 that is inside the EDTCTL record format. This layout has the "scroller" CSS class applied to it, which would make it scrollable on a mobile device *IF* the layout with "scroller" doesn't fit inside it's parent layout. Since it is not inside of another layout, this goes haywire. When the iScroll code (an open source mobile-like scrollbar library we incorporate) tries to draw the scrollbar, it gets confused and hides everything in the parent, which in this case is your window -- so it hides the whole record format.

The "scroller" class isn't doing you any good here. Please just right-click the "css class" property of Layout2 in the EDTCTL record format and remove the property (removing the scroller class). That should fix the problem.

Also I notice you are using a very old version of Profound UI. Please note that this version (4.8.0) is no longer supported by Profound Logic. If this ends up being a bug, we cannot fix anything in a version that old -- you would need to update to the current version first. (In this case, the current version also causes your dialog to disappear with the scroller class -- I tested it. So same problem is there -- but I don't think it's a bug, I think you're just using the scroller improperly.)
