Is there a way to globally default tool tips? For example, adding a tool tip for function key F3 - Cancel like "Click or press F3 to Cancel".

Are you referring to 5250 screens? Or Rich Displays (displays that were converted)?

You want to "default" all tooltips on everything? Is that right? Or just for function key buttons?

How would Profound UI know what to default them to? Do you have a list of "defaults" you want to asssign to certain things, or is this tool tip text available somewhere that you'd like to pull it from?

Hi Scott,

Just converted screens and just function keys. Each screen has different fields and a different purpose. We don't currently have these tool tips anywhere, we just thought that would be nice to have for our standard function keys. For example:

Continue="Click or Press Enter To Continue"
Cancel="Click or Press F3 To Cancel"
List="Click or Press F4 To List"
Add="Click or Press F10 To Add"
Return="Click or Press F12 To Return"

When we convert our screens we don't want to show the function keys anymore but still want to give ours users who use the function keys some help.

Thanks.

Hi Rick,

Yes, this can be done. If you take a look at the documentation for themes found here http://www.profoundlogic.com/docs/display/PUI/Themes , you will see a property for "show fkey name as tooltip". This property will make the tooltip display the "F3" or "F12". Is this sufficient or do you really need it to have a "Click or Press X to Y"?

Hi Brian,

Cool! This might work, I will check. Is this something we can change in our custom conversion theme if our users want to see more info for the function key tool tips?

Thanks!

If this feature doesn't work for you, it would have to be done manually in the conversion. This would be a bit involved so I suggest avoiding if possible.

It is also a good idea to begin breaking the function key mindset anyway. Mobile devices have no such keys. In fact, many new laptops do not have dedicated function keys anymore.
